Dear Friends and Comrades,

On behalf of the Communist Organization of Greece (KOE), we congratulate you on the 90th anniversary since the first meeting of Dáil Éireann, the first all-Ireland Parliament. This is an important landmark in the long historical struggles of the Irish People for independence and justice. The two documents produced by Dáil, the Declaration of Independence and the Democratic Programme, represented the will of the Irish People to achieve both national and social liberation throughout the whole island. These two resolutions represented a threat against the imperialist and reactionary forces, who eventually led the bloody repression of the Irish Republic.

The Greek people, as the peoples of the whole world, always felt close with and supported the Irish People in their just and protracted struggle against the British occupation and the local reactionaries, for a united and progressive Ireland. Very recently, we enthusiastically hailed the proud Irish NO to the EU “Lisbon Treaty”, which is inscribed in the combative tradition and the ongoing contemporary resistance of your people. Seizing the opportunity of Dáil Éireann’s 90th anniversary, we salute the progressive organizations of Ireland, as well as all the peoples and nations who suffer and struggle for their emancipation – from Palestine to the Basque Country. We are confident that in these times of deep capitalist crisis and bloody reactionary wars we will all reinforce the necessary coordination of the struggles against the common enemies of our peoples.
