On behalf of the Leading Committee of the Communist Organization of Greece (KOE), we express our deep sorrow on the sad news about the passing away of Ka Bel, Crispin Beltran. We convey our most sincere condolences to his family, to the Anakpawis Partylist, to the whole national democratic movement, the working class and the people of the Philippines.

Crispin Beltran’s life represents the very history and the heroic struggles of the Philippines’ people for national liberation and social emancipation during more than half a century. His was a life entirely dedicated to the service of the people. We have had the honor to meet Comrade Crispin Beltran several times: First in the Philippines, during the mid 90s, when our delegations participated in the ISA and the anti-APEC international campaigns. At that time Ka Bel was already a deeply respected figure and a militant national leader of the KMU and of BAYAN. Later on, we have had the pleasure to meet him again, when he played a decisive role in the formation and leadership of the ILPS, thus becoming the symbol of the efforts to regroup and coordinate mass organizations from the whole world in the struggle against the imperialist globalization.

Because of his dedication to the cause of the peoples, Ka Bel repetitively suffered the repression of the successive US-dominated reactionary regimes of the Philippines. However, even under the most difficult conditions, he never wavered, he never lost his courage and his principles, and always kept high the banners of struggle. His last arrest and illegal detention during one and half year by the US-Arroyo regime, with ridiculous and fabricated charges, worsened his health and at the same time provoked an international campaign condemning the shameless repression against him, the worthy Representative of the popular masses of the Philippines.

Ka Bel will always live in the minds and hearts of the working class and of the peoples as an example of dignity, dedication and life-long struggle against the cynical, corrupted, atrocious enemies of the masses! As far as we are concerned, we will never forget his comradely attitude, his outstanding contribution to our common cause, and his deep conviction that the peoples will finally triumph.

We honor Ka Bel, pledging to intensify our solidarity with the national democratic movement and the people of the Philippines. His memory and revolutionary legacy lives and will always live on in the world-wide struggles for national liberation, democracy and social emancipation, against imperialism and all reaction!
